May I ask how these "ratings" are configured? Robinson mercy ruled two of the teams in the 4A top 10. Yet Dover is 2 and Robinson not ranked?

I know there have been many people asking why Pulaski Robinson has dropped out of the Top 10 in the GPR this week. There are a lot of variables involved, but I will explain the best and simplest way I can.
A look at Pulaski Robinson’s rankings week by week:

1) #4
2) #4
3) #5
4) #5
5) #7
6) #5
7) #5
8) #11

Pulaski Robinson has been a favorite in their games each week this season, except for this week.
The strength of schedule (SOS) has hurt the past two weeks. The average opposition ranking the past two weeks has been 19.40. The average opposition rating for the first 5 weeks was 42.74.
Predicted margin of victory and actual margin of victory are also calculated. Here’s an example: If a team has a predicted margin of victory of 10 and the actual margin of victory is 7, they attained 70% of the predicted margin. The past two weeks, Robinson has only attained 70.8% of the predicted margin against an opposition rating of 19.40. The first 5 weeks they attained 116.7% of the predicted margin, with the opposition rating of 42.74.
There has been a decline in Robinson’s power numbers the past two weeks, but this past week was a big drop in ranking as well as numbers, as other teams slightly below them last week has 1) a better SOS, 2) more successful predicted to actual margin of victory, or 3) both.

The eye test shows Robinson is for sure a top 10 team, and several will say they are the best in 4A. I don’t doubt any of those statements at all. I do not want the GPR to be a measuring stick for coaches to analyze how much they should defeat an opponent to maintain a status with the poll. This is not the purpose of the explanation. This is a power poll with numbers. I have always been into numbers and analytical data. This is an analytic-based system I created on my own. I had no help from anyone creating this power poll. I created this in 1995, really before power polls were nationally known, with the exception of maybe Sagarin. Numbers DO NOT measure the heart of a team. All that really counts is who is standing with the plaque on the 50 yard-line on week 15 at WMS!!!!!

Your 2A ratings are hilarious! Hazen ranked #2, ahead of McCrory and earle who beat hazen, and des arc not even in the top 10. Heck I bet now that des arc just flat out destroyed hazen Friday night, hazen goes to #1. Heck des arc has lost one game, by 2 to mccrory, and also beat your #8 3A team.

Just laughable.

What is laughable is the fact that you still cant figure out that this isnt a ranking even though its been said multiple times. This appears to show weekly strength of schedule with how a team did compared to a points spread mixed in. It is funny to see you get so anal about this every week. If Des Arc or Hazen is so good they will be there in the end. If Des Arc is there in the end, then an 82A school will mercy rule them in the title game again.

Ok mr. genius, how can a team be ranked ahead of 2 teams that have beaten that team, one of those is undefeated and the other has one loss?

And no, there will be no team from the 8, mercy rule des arc this season, Junction city does not have 2 or 3 D1 players on this team.

I'm genius enough to figure this out. You keep harping on one team when steve jas made it clear the power rankings are based off of each team each week. It appears wins and losses along with strength of schedule and how each team does against the spread decides each weeks positions. You continue to think of this as a ranking when it us not. It is a strength if schedule and how each team performed against it each week. Considering the computer has showed that multiple top ranked teams in standard polls would lose on the exact weeks they did it is working itself out each week. Then the fact that you think D1 players equals a championship is hilarious. If that were the case Warren Little Rock Central and several other programs would never lose. You are just too blinded by your des arc love to see the forrest through the trees. Newsflash des arc ain't winning a state championship this year if ever.

FrankJohnson I'm glad to see you get the concept. You TOTALLY get it. The GPR numbers are a compilation of data from week 1 through last week, with last week being the most important data because...it was last week. I'm the first to say that numbers can't replace heart, or the vibe through a team. I will say, after re-starting the GPR last year after an 18-year hiatus (had to put it down and let the kids grow up, lol), weekly it averages at 80% prediction accuracy, give or take 5% on certain weeks. Of the 80% wins, the predicted point spread is within 7-points of the actual point spread as much as 50% of the time. That's not every week. Several times it's a little lower. Last year, every pre-season #1 team in all classes 2A-7A in my Power Poll won state. It's not a perfect system. That's why it predicts at an 80% clip and not 100%. Mount Ida was the pre-season #1 in the poll this year for 2A. In my mind, I feel Rison is gonna take it, but we'll see. You are Sooo correct when you say it works itself out more and more each week. I don't care, and the computer certainly doesn't care, who won this or that 2,3 or 5 years ago. This is a story of this year, and is a 15-chapter book. All that really matters is who holds the plaque over their heads at WMS. I can tell, with your-open minded concept, you have been around football a while. People can argue about this and that all they want. For me, that's what makes every year so fun and interesting. It would be boring if everyone agreed. :))) As for an opinion on D1 athletes making a difference in 2A...we would spend a lot more time talking about teams that have zero D1 prospects on a team that won the 2A title than the ones that did. D1 "prospects" and "prospects" that actually turn out to be D1 talent are two totally different entities. How many of those "prospects" turned out to be legit D1 talent? Frank, I appreciate your input.

I'm not concerned with des arc, I was asking about HAZEN, I don't care what kind of system you use, sometimes common sense has to come into play. They were mercy ruled by Earle and beaten by McCrory, there is no logical explanation to have Hazen RATED above those 2 teams. Maybe if just a little common sense was used, the system would be darn near flawless.
