I did some number crunching to see how last year's state champions are looking so far this year. Out of the six state champions, only one team has been outscored this season by their opponents. Here is a breakdown of points scored and points against this year up to this point.

Defending Class 7A champs Bentonville has outscored their opponents 145-128. They are currently 3-4 this season.

Defending 6A champs El Dorado has outscored their opponents 186-130. They are currently 5-2 this season.

Defending Class 5A champs Morrilton has been outscored 233-175. They are currently 3-4 this season.

Booneville who won 4A last year and dropped to 3A has outscored their opponents 242-96. They are currently 6-1 this season.

Defending Class 3A champs Charleston has outscored opponents 334-109. They are currently 7-0 this season.

Class 2A defending state champs Junction City has outscored their opponents 333-35. They are currently 7-0 this season.

As noted above, Morrilton is the only defending state champion who has not outscored their opponents up to this point this year.

83 of those 130 that have been scored against El Dorado came in two games.
21 of those came via special teams and defensive scores.
So, the Wildcat D has actually allowed 109 points, or an average of 15½ pts a game, which is well ahead of the 21 ppg we allowed in last year's championship season.

I'll take it. The defense is gonna have to carry us if we're gonna win our 5th title in six years.

Can't wait till the Cats come back to WMS to win another state and look out next year cause the 9th grade team is talented.
